December Housing Report

Despite the typical winter slowdown, November home sales finished 19.1% above a year ago and prices increased 1.4% over October. All but one of the 53 markets in the RE/MAX National Housing Report posted an increased number of sales over November 2015, with nearly half of the markets at least 20% higher. In all, last month saw more homes sold than any other November in the eight-year history of the report.

November Housing Report

Last month saw the second-most sales – and the smallest inventory – of any October in the 9-year history of the RE/MAX National Housing Report. Add to that combination the highest year-over-year price increase of 2016 thus far: 8.3%.

October Housing Report

Though posting a typical seasonal dropoff from August, September’s U.S. home sales represented the most of any September in the 9-year history of the RE/MAX National Housing Report. Home sales dropped 11.7% from August to September – nearly the same as the 11.0% average decline over the previous eight years of the Report. But sales increased 2.0% over September 2015 which had previously been the best September.

September Housing Report

August home sales increased 5.8% over a year ago, reversing July’s decline of 8.8%. At the same time, the median price climbed 5.1% as steady monthly increases continued. August sales were up year-over-year in 41 of the 53 U.S. metro areas analyzed in the RE/MAX National Housing Report. Twelve metro areas posted double-digit increases, including major markets along the east coast from Washington, DC to Charlotte, NC. So far in 2016, seven of the eight months have seen year-over-year sales increases nationally.

August Housing Report

Unlike the month’s temperatures, July home sales cooled off from June’s highest year-to-date level. In the RE/MAX National Housing Report analysis of 53 U.S. cities, July sales fell in 49 markets by 8.8% from July 2015 and by 13.1% from June. Find more market and housing news at

July Housing Report

With the market now in the midst of the popular summer selling season, both home sales and prices are rising with the summer temperatures. Homebuyer demand in June kept sales levels above last year’s by 0.7%, with a strong increase of 9.4% over sales in May. The Median Sales Price in June was $229,900, which marks a 2.2% increase over prices seen in June 2015. As year-over-year price increases moderate, there’s a positive impact on home affordability. The number of homes for sale in June fell 15.6% from levels one year ago, making inventory supply a significant challenge, especially in West Coast metros. At the rate of home sales in June, the national Months Supply of Inventory was 3.2, a slight improvement from the 3.0 supply seen in May.

June Housing Report

As homebuyer demand continues, May saw a 10.3% jump in sales over April and a 5.1% increase over May last year, which is slightly higher than the average year-over-year sales increase of 4.5% so far in 2016. The Median Sales Price in May was $222,475, a 4.2% rise from price levels one year ago and 3.5% above the median price in April. The inventory of homes for sale remains very tight in many markets across the country, with the May inventory 14.8% lower than May 2015. At the rate of home sales in May, the national Months Supply of Inventory was 3.0, down from 3.2 in April.

September 2015 RE/MAX National Housing Report

RE/MAX researches 53 major metropolitan markets and analyzes the data to get a pulse on the US housing market. Here are some highlights from this months report. For more information about your local real estate market and what these trends mean for you, contact a local RE/MAX All-Pro agent.

August home sales were 5.0% higher than August 2014 and were 27.6% greater than the sales in August 2008, the first month of the RE/MAX National Housing Report. Completed transactions in August were 11.4% lower than in July, which was the second best month for home sales since 2008. Click here to download the August 2015 Housing Report.

May 2015 RE/MAX National Housing Report

Home sales in April were greater than in any other April since the RE/MAX National Housing Report began in 2008. This continued a three-month trend in which sales were higher than both the previous month and the same month in the previous year.

National Housing Report : Home Sales Up

Defying the normal trend, home sales in December rose above the number of November sales by a significant 14.4%. Sales were also 3.9% above those of last December. Although home sales have generally been lower in 2014 than 2013, three of the last four months have experienced sales higher than the same month last year. Home prices in December were also higher than one year ago, rising 5.9%. Inventory continues to be constrained, with 10.7% fewer homes for sale than last December. As a result, the Months Supply of inventory rose to 5.7 on a scale where 6.0 indicates a market balanced equally between buyers and sellers.
